Volume 10, Chapter 7: "High Elf Bow"

Short Summary[]

Following his birthday party, Lee Hyun logs back into Royal Road after being away from the game for a few days. Weed is back in his normal human form as he reunites with Alveron near the Valley of Death.

Meanwhile, Oberon and his Cold Roses Guild arrive at the northern town of Eldereun Village to drop off the Siberian Witch's Beads at the Altar of God. Said item was carried by Drum given that he's a powerful ice Wizard that can handle the beads' deadly cold properties. Drum hands the beads over to an Enchanter guildmate named Charon, who uses Jewel Restoration to restore the broken beads back to its original state. With the beads now restored, the Cold Roses are shown the past of the Siberian Witch that made her a legend in history as a master ice Wizard.

The restored beads provides the option to teach powerful ice spells, which saddens Drum knowing that he has to give it up to the altar in order to end the Curse of King Belsos. The Siberian Witch's Beads disintegrates into dust after being offered to Ederne's altar, which results in the temperature of the Versailles Continent finally lowering back down to its original state. People all across the continent who've been watching live footage of the Cold Roses Guild's journey go about celebrating now that the heat-wave curse has finally been lifted.

Back in the Northern Continent, Weed and Alveron investigate the Valley of Death, which they see that the snow and ice has melted away now that the Siberian Witch's Beads is no longer around to affect the entire continent's weather. Using Binryong and the Living Wyverns, they fly their way back to the village of Morata, which has begun to develop during the time they've been gone thanks to the Night Festival's production buff. Alveron returns to protecting the village for the Church of Freya as Weed heads over to the Morata Elder's home to turn in the A-Rank Quest regarding the event that led to the fall of the Niflheim Empire

Talking over a meal, Weed reveals to the elder the truth about the past that Emperor Eben Niflheim VI sacrificed himself in Sendeim Valley to defeat the monsters invading the empire by using the Siberian Witch's Beads, which completes the A-Rank Quest. As a reward for completing the quest, Weed gains a lot of Fame, increased friendship with Morata, several level-ups, and one of the empire's treasures, which Weed identifies as the Emperor Eben's Bracelet that greatly increases mana. The Morata Elder then offers Weed the position to become Morata's new lord, which Weed isn't allowed to reject due to the friendship he's built up with Morata's citizens. As a result, Weed is forced to become the new ruler of the Morata province. As a reward for becoming a lord, Weed obtains the "Count of Morata" title, some additional Fame, and a few stat increases.

Departing from the Morata Elder's home, Weed runs into Prina again, which he turns in the A-Rank Quest she provided that had him growing seeds in the Valley of Death. Weed is rewarded with some more Fame, more increased friendship with Morata, and several more level-ups. Prina also provides him with 2 item rewards: one of which is a map that will lead Weed to the location of the friend she promised he could meet, and the other is a unique High Elf Bow that's considered to be one of the best weapons for Archery type classes.

Trivia[]

  1. During Hyun's birthday party, Oh Dongman, Shin Hye Min and Choi Ji Hoon turn out to be weak to alcohol. The party was able to go through 200 boxes of soku in just 4 hours.
  2. Hyun logs back into Royal Road where he reunites with Alveron within a Valley of Death cave. Weed had been away from Royal road for 6 in-game days after spending 2 in real-life.
  3. Oberon leads his Cold Roses Guild to the town of Ederne in order to put the Siberian Witch's Beads on Ederne's Altar of God. The village is said to be a desolate place of run down houses and broken walls.
  4. Drum, a professional ice mage, had been holding onto the broken Siberian Witch's Beads for the Cold Roses during their journey to Ederne. He hands the broken beads over to Charon, a male Enchanter that can restore broken jewels to their original state. Charon asks for Drum to buy the former a drink later as payment for having to deal with the bead's deadly ice properties.
  5. Charon identifies the Siberian Witch's Beads, which turns out to be an item of just 1 durability. The beads is said to be an item of unknown material that once contained a great force. Cracks in the beads has resulted in said force erupting to the outside, and as a result, is the source of an incessant chill coming out of it. One who restores the beads to its original state will seal the cold back inside it.
  6. Charon is a high-level Wizard class that went up in the Enchanter artisan profession. The Enchanter class has the ability to power up or restore gems and minerals through magic, but requires a high skill level to do so.
  7. Charon uses a Jewel Restoration skill unique to Enchanters to restore the durability of the broken Siberian Witch's Beads, which finally gets rid of the chill that the beads has been giving off. Despite restoring the item, the ice curse leaves Charon frozen in place, and results in his death due to their party's lack of healing classes to unfreeze him.
  8. After restoring the beads, Oberon and the Cold Roses are shown footage of a young girl believed to be the Siberian Witch in her youth in a peaceful snowy land trying to get her ice magic to work. As she grew older developing her ice powers, and now wields a Wizard robe and a staff, the witch entered a battle going on between monsters and humans, and froze everyone to death. As a  result, the Siberian Witch became a legend in history as a master of ice magic capable of using the powerful Freezing Storm skill.
  9. The Cold Roses Guild receives a game message that the magic of the Siberian Witch has returned to the beads after its restoration. Those who are adapt at ice magic can now learn advanced magic spells from the Siberian Witch's Beads.
  10. As an ice mage who could benefit greatly from learning the beads' ice spells without needing to find a spellbook or materials first, Drum is left disappointed that he has to give up the Siberian Witch's Beads to Ederne's altar.
  11. Players all around Royal Road watch the live internet feed in taverns to witness the Cold Roses Guild go to Ederne to end the heat-wave curse. They watch as the Siberian Witch's Beads disintegrates into dust after Drum places it onto the Altar of God.
  12. The atmospheric temperature is lowered back down to its original state, which finally ends the Curse of King Belsos. As a result of the heat-wave curse finally ending, people across the Versailles Continent throw festivals celebrating its end.
  13. Weed and Alveron fly atop Binryong and the 6 Wyverns to check out the remnants of the Valley of Death. They see some of the valley's monsters having respawned as well as the fact that the snow and ice in the valley is now melting now that the source of the ice curse, the Siberian Witch's Beads, has been taken away and restored. Binryong is also suffering from possibly melting since its an Ice Dragon in a place that's no longer cold.
  14. It's implied that Seoyoon revived in Morata after her death to the Bone Dragon. Despite still not trusting her, Weed figures that he should try to contact her at some point.
  15. Weed and Alveron make their way back to Morata where they see that the town is now developing thanks to the productivity buff that was provided from the Night Festival. Many homes have been reconstructed during the time Weed and company were gone. Alveron returns to protecting Morata Village with the rest of the Church of Freya's Priests and Paladins while Weed heads over to see the village Elder to turn in the A-Rank Quest that sent him off to the Valley of Death.
  16. Weed and the Morata Elder have a meal together over a Sweet Potato. Weed's satiety is filled, and stamina is temporarily increased by 10%.
  17. Weed reveals to the Morata Elder that the late Emperor Eben Niflheim VI didn't run away, but pulled the invading monsters into Sendeim Valley, and overpowered them using the Siberian Witch's Beads, which completes the A-Rank Quest.
  18. By completing the A-Rank Quest, Weed discovered that Emperor Eben Niflheim VI sacrificed himself to protect his people, but the end-result following his sacrifice wasn't what he wanted. The weather of the Northern Continent is also no longer cold thanks to the Siberian Witch's Beads being restored.
  19. As a reward for completing the A-Rank Quest, Weed gains 3,200 Fame, 100 Friendship points with Morata's citizens, and 3,200 Public Value points for Morata Village. He now has 9,800 Public Value points in total to use for Morata. He also gains 7 level-ups.
  20. The Morata Elder claims that the Niflheim Empire's imperial treasures were scattered when the empire fell, but he's managed to keep hold of one this whole time given that he's a former Niflheim noble. As an additional quest reward, the elder pulls out a bracelet from one of his drawers, and hands it to Weed.
  21. Weed identifies the bracelet, which turns out to be Emperor Eben's Bracelet. At 30 durability, the bracelet is one of the Niflheim Empire's treasures that has refined beauty and a variety of magical abilities. It's said to be an incredibly finely crafted piece of jewelry embedded with gems. Restrictions include needing to be level 450 and having 100,000 Fame to equip. Equipping the bracelet increases maximum mana by 55%, all stats by 15, 20% more mana regeneration, and +50 Charm.
  22. Thanks to Weed's efforts, the Morata Elder offers Weed the opportunity to become the Count of Morata. The village of Morata was once a renowned producer of high quality cloth and leather back in the days of the Niflheim Empire. Including Weed, the chance to become Count was offered to one other hero of the village. Those who obtain high friendship, will not be able to refuse the offer, meaning that Weed is not allowed to refuse the offer to become the Count of Morata.
  23. After being forced to become the Count, Weed can tax trade and crops monthly in Morata, strengthen the village's military power, and the rewards will increase if the new Morata lord occupies another city or castle depending on their sizes.
  24. As a reward for becoming Morata's new lord, Weed is given the Count of Morata title, 2,500 Fame, +30 Charisma, and +20 Leadership.
  25. Weed runs into Prina outside of the Morata Elder's house. Due to the many babies popping up in Morata, Prina's been spending her time tailoring baby clothing. Prina claims that it's her dream to make clothes, but that she needs a farm to do so, and that the village currently just doesn't have enough farmers.
  26. Weed turns in the A-Rank Quest to Prina where he had to plant the seeds she provided him within the Valley of Death so that they grow into grass, flowers and trees.
  27. As a reward for completing the quest, Weed gains 1,600 Fame, 120 Friendship points with Morata's citizens, the citizens will now heed to Weed's orders, 600 additional Public Value points for a total of 10,400, and 3 level-ups. Weed is left a bit disappointed that he only got 3 levels for an A-Rank Quest. Prina also rewards Weed with 2 items, which he goes about identifying.
  28. The 1st of Prina's item rewards is a Freely Drawn Map, which has 3 durability. The map is poorly drawn as if a child drew it with hard to see lines and triangles for mountains, but Prina explains that it's a map to her friend that she promised Weed could meet.
  29. The 2nd of Prina's item rewards is a High Elf Bow at 65 durability, deals 98 damage, and can reach a range of 18. The item is said to be extremely rare since an elf only ever creates one bow in their lifetime. Elves are very difficult to find, which makes receiving the bow to humans as a gift very rare. The bow is also said to be imbued with the power of Sprites. Restrictions include needing to be level 400, needing 1000 Agility, and an archery related profession. Equipping the bow adds +40% chance to hit, +40% range, the user can move much more rapidly, arrow damage dealt results in elemental damage, and affinity with Spirits is increased by 5%.
  30. Weed is left a bit annoyed that he has to go find the person on the map, but becomes excited to have hit the jackpot knowing that the High Elf Bow is one of the most coveted items of the Archer class.
